7 Reasons why we can’t wait for Singapore Indesign

Singapore’s best design-centric boutique event is making a comeback on 8 October 2016 and we can’t wait! Singapore Indesign is a one-day design adventure that’s jam-packed with activities such as tours, talks and products launches, all catered for design fans and practitioners.

Here are some of the reasons why we can’t wait for Singapore Indesign!

1. It’s all FREE

Singapore Indesign is completely free to attend. Registering for the event is free (you can register on the day itself, or better yet, beat the queue and pre-register here) and you’ll even receive a tote bag and lanyard! What’s more, there will be free shuttle buses making loops between all participating showrooms. Flash your lanyard, hop on the bus and hop off at any designated stop.

2. There are Instagram-worthy design installations everywhere

One of the biggest draws of Singapore Indesign is the opportunity to see creativity on display. The exhibitors go all out to create Instagram-worthy moments that become the talk of the town. We’ve had a sneak peek at what’s lined up this year, and it’s truly impressive! Here’s a look at some of the highlights:

Singapore-Indesign_EDL_ipli-architectsEDL and ipli Architects take over the facade of Space Furniture showroom to present DEMATERIAL. The outside of the building will be visually distorted, giving it a pixellated effect. We just can’t help but to take a closer look and touch the installation. It also makes the perfect backdrop for an #OOTD.

Singapore-Indesign_Project_Kreon-x-StudiogotoWe’ve only seen the drawings of the collaboration between Kreon and Studiogoto, but we’re intrigued! The abstract installation is centred around a series of suspended Cloud lights, lending to its name cloud FORMation. The architectural form of the cloud light fittings will sway gently in the wind, creating interesting changes in light and shade.

3. Sit in on designer talks, conversations and even live Q&A sessions

Singapore-Indesign-2015_Design-Conversations

Last year, Singapore Indesign introduced Design Conversations to the programme. We sat in on last year’s sessions and were impressed by the thought-provoking and on-trend topics that were covered. These intimate seminars feel like you’re sitting in on a casual conversation between well-informed experts who just happen to be industry leaders and trendsetters!

This year, Design Conversations continues to tackle design-related topics that are pertinent in current times. From the fleeting definition of Southeast Asian design to the evolution of lighting in architecture to the importance of future-proofing an ageing city, these on-trend talks are definitely on our radar. Seats are limited, of course, but you can register here.

4. Rub shoulders with international guests

Singapore Indesign is part of Indesign: The Event, which holds similar events in cities around Asia Pacific. Each event draws a host of famous faces and renowned international guests. We’re excited to meet Doshi Levien, a London-based design duo who’ll be presenting their collaboration with Kvadrat.

OM will also be bringing a slew of international designers, including Sean Dix, to hold talks and on design.

5. Stand a chance to win some incredible prizes

Who doesn’t love a good giveaway? Attending Singapore Indesign gives you a chance to win some dream designer prizes! There are more than $33,000 worth of prizes up for grabs, and we’ve got our eyes on these covet-worthy items:

From past years’ experience, you never know what to expect at each stop on the Singapore Indesign design route. Some of the showrooms will offer food and drinks to help you power through the day, while others may have freebies up for grabs. Just bear in mind that Singapore Indesign is still a professional event.

7. Get invited to the exclusive VIP after-party

Singapore-Indesign_After-Party

After each Singapore Indesign, the organisers, exhibitors and a few lucky attendees head to a private after-party that brings together the who’s who of the design world. We’ve been to a few of the SGID After Party and it’s everything it’s hyped up to be. Rub shoulders with famous faces while enjoying the free flow of food and drinks. It’s the perfect opportunity to meet your idols, or grab the chance to network with industry greats.
