To create a home that would meet the needs of the couple and their two young children, interior designer Jay Neo from Unimax Creative re-configured the kitchen, dining and living areas.
One of the requests that the homeowners made was to have an open-concept kitchen. Jay removed the walls and designed this space, not only to visually impress, but also to be completely functional. With efficiency in mind, he made sure that there is plenty of worktop space for the homeowners to cook and prepare their meals. The L-shaped kitchen and the complementing island counter are fully equipped with cabinets and drawers for maximum storage options.
The dining space and kitchen were merged to form a larger space for the family of four. The dining table is custom-designed as an extension of the island counter. This space-saving design maximises the square footage of the kitchen and makes a big impression when guests come over. A stylish pendant lamp completes the cosy ambience.
In the living room, the designer dressed up one of the walls with open display shelves and closed storage compartments. He also introduced wood laminates on the drawers and shelves to maintain a consistent look with the rest of the home. The ledge that protrudes from this display showcase functions as a work desk for the couple. When not needed, the ledge can slide into the storage wall and be flush with the rest of the surface.
In order to make the master bedroom visually larger, Jay used tinted mirrors and gloss laminates to reflect more light and space. He also customised a black velvet cushioned bed frame with a floating effect to create the illusion of space.
The loft bed for the couple’s young children is designed with safety and practicality in mind. Drawers, cabinets and railings have all been incorporated into the design. Since the children sharing this room is a boy and a girl, Jay used white colours in his design to keep it gender-neutral for both children to enjoy.
