One of Singapore’s premier hotels for business and leisure, the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, received a redesign of its public spaces. With so many new hotels popping up around Singapore, this new couldn’t come at a better time. Design firm designphase dba took on the reins of transforming the hotel into a multi-faceted fusion of cultures.

The bulk of the redesign improves the layout of the hotel and the guest-flow through the public spaces. It also brings the hotel back to life, matching the vibrancy of the neighbourhood. Upon arrival, guests are greeted by two 10-metre high walls covered in artwork designed locally in collaboration with multimedia artist and founder of Kult Studio and Gallery, Mojoko (also known as Steve Lawler). A sheer shimmering metal curtain screening the artwork guides guests through the signature ‘golden mirrored glass entrance box’. The effect is immediate; almost as if you’re transported from one place to another.

Stepping into the lobby space is an equally exciting experience. You’ll immediately notice the cluster of MOLO lights, bunched together in a random cloud formation. They’re positioned to emphasise the height and volume of the lobby, with soft white glowing shapes that form a dreamy reminder of an entrance into a new world.

Over in the restaurant, designphase dba unified the social spaces, showcasing contemporary design that maximises the potential of the hotel for its guests. From the striking tiles to the X-shaped illuminated glass feature, guests will feel right at home in an international experience.

The refurbishment of the hotel into a more integrated social space now connects the main functions of the guest lobby, reception, and waiting area, bar and lounge, restaurants and outdoor areas. These redefined spaces come together in a cohesive manner, allowing each space to shine on its own, or together as one communal area.
