For trendy interiors that are rustic, yet elegant, this range of living and dining furniture features herringbone inlay acacia wood surfaces, and vintage-look brass-tone accents.

    Material: Acacia wood, brass-finish metal

    Text by Louisa Clare Lim

Who wouldn’t appreciate the exquisiteness of natural wood? The sought-after material instantly gives any space character and charisma. And with the Bruno collection of living and dining furniture from Commune, which makes use of alluring tropical acacia wood, your home will be imbued with a refined, nature-inspired look.

The collection consists of a coffee table, TV unit, console table (or desk), sideboard, dining table and chairs, with clean-cut contemporary silhouettes. But featuring classic herringbone wood inlay surfaces, and worn brass-finish metal, the pieces also exude old-world charm.

The Bruno sideboard has a middle section fitted with three drawers, flanked by cabinet doors with the defining herringbone wood inlay surface.

While the natural beauty of the acacia wood used to make the pieces is heightened by its “raw” finishing technique, subtly gleaming brass tones in the form of slim handles and legs give each piece a dose of luxury that is sophisticated, and yet approachable.

Left: The Bruno console is a versatile piece that can be used as a vanity in the bedroom, desk in the study, or credenza in the living room, foyer or corridor. Right: Elegantly proportioned, the Bruno dining table has a clean-lined tabletop profile and slim legs. It seats up to six, and can be matched with either the upholstered armchairs or side chairs from the same range.

For the Bruno furniture collection, designer and co-founder of Commune Julian Koh drew inspiration from British colonial style and history. Acacia wood, specifically, was chosen for its wild grains and distinctive knots that make each piece truly unique. Adding to the appeal, antique-look brass tones blend nicely with the dark wood, and also catch the light for shine and contrast.

Louvred panels in the middle flip up and slide in to reveal storage space for audio-visual equipment – a nifty feature of the Bruno TV unit.

Geometric motifs, contemporary aesthetics and classic details come together in this beguiling collection of furniture – an assimilation of old and new – for stylish, urbane interiors.
