If you adore the cool and trendy furniture designs from Grafunkt – and especially if you are a Star Wars fan, this new collection designed by the brand’s co-founder Nathan Yong will delight you.

Recently, Nathan had the rare opportunity to translate one of his favourite pieces of popular culture into sculptural furniture through his own design lens. Say hello to the Star Wars x Grafunkt collection: the result of an exclusive collaboration between Disney and Grafunkt to commemorate the upcoming film release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

“I am stoked to have the opportunity to collaborate with Disney on this collection as Star Wars is very much a part of me and my generation’s life with its imperative pop culture impact and influence,” says Nathan. “Being a classic film while its contemporaries fade into obscurity, Star Wars remains timeless, accompanying us from boyhood through adulthood.”

The local designer has created a series of four marble stools / side tables that are available in limited runs as Star Wars collectible editions. Each piece is modelled after an iconic Star Wars machine: the Sandcrawler, Millennium Falcon, TIE-Fighter and AT-AT Walker.

The Millennium Falcon and TIE-Fighter were chosen to represent the duality of the light and dark side, whilst the AT-AT and Sandcrawler were chosen for their strong visual and architectural aspects respectively.

Nathan sees the collection as an expression of the current state of pop culture – one that challenges people’s perception of what film merchandising can be.

The Star Wars x Grafunkt collection will be available from 1 December 2017 at Grafunkt, Takashimaya’s Star Wars Pop-up Store and theartling.com. The film will be in Singapore’s theatres on 14 December.
