Design Excellence Awards 2016 recognises 118 winning designs!

The Design Excellence Awards (DEA) Singapore honoured 118 winners at its awards ceremony this year. The competition results were announced last Thursday, 27 October 2016, at the STI Auditorium in Capital Tower. 41 designers from 35 firms and 19 students from six design institutions were awarded a Bronze, Silver or Gold award for their interior design works completed between 1 July 2014 and 30 Sept 2016.

DEA Singapore is an annual event organised by Interior Design Confederation Singapore (IDCS) to recognise and celebrate the achievements of local practitioners as well as budding designers from art and design institutions. Each year, a number of local and international design industry professionals are carefully selected and invited to judge the competition entries.

Currently in its fourth year, DEA Singapore saw a record number of submissions this year across all categories. DEA 2016 attracted a total of 280 entries as the competition welcomed practitioners and students in Singapore and across Asia Pacific including Japan and Australia.

Council members of the IDCS shortlisted 124 entries for I-DEA (Industry Design Excellence Awards for industry professionals) and 88 entries for student segment SPADE (Spatial Design Excellence Awards). These were then submitted for judging by the panel of seven judges from Singapore and Asia Pacific.

At the DEA 2016 awards ceremony last Thursday, 250 guests comprising designers, judges, sponsors and members were welcomed to an evening of inspiration and excitement over cocktails and dinner as the winners were progressively announced. Awards were given according to design categories which include retail, hospitality, workplace and residential.
