According to Pea Chong, creative director of D’ Initial Concept, the interior design scene in Singapore is in a constant state of flux. One of the biggest changes, she points out, is the fact that “clients and homeowners are more educated on their needs and tastes”. Because of this, boutique design firm D’ Initial Concept focuses on fostering clear communication while adapting its approach to work in tandem with its clients.
“When clients know exactly what they want, our role is to provide advice on the material choices that are suitable for their design,” Pea explains. Because of this, the design firm has developed a reputation for crafting cosy interiors with a strong emphasis on soft textures, bold colours and a warm, welcoming ambience. The creative director calls this signature look “home style”, and describes it as a series of versatile spaces within the home that can be easily adjusted and adapted based on your current needs.
For D’ Initial Concept, interior design is also about maintaining good relationships and ensuring client satisfaction. As a self-confessed people person, Pea enjoys meeting and talking to different people. “The best part of my job is interacting with different clients, and it’s only when we know them well that we can come up with a design that caters to their needs.”
