Our very own ‘design day out’ returned this year with a new, exciting format. Singapore Indesign Intimate took the best of previous years’ iterations and presented the event in a more compact yet high-impact design experience over two days.

On 9 and 10 July 2015, Singapore Indesign Intimate presented two curated spaces – Red Dot Design Museum and National Design Centre – where 16 exhibitors and 23 partners came together to provide Singapore’s design community with thought-provoking and creative content.

One of the draws of Singapore Indesign Intimate was The Project, a series of collaborative installations between exhibitors and architects/designers. Exhibitor Greenlam Laminates worked with WOW Architects to put together ‘Balancing Birds’, an interactive display of model “birds” made from antibacterial laminates, perched on a forest of clear, plastic tubes. Meanwhile, at the National Design Centre, exhibitor EDL collaborated with K2LD Architects to design an attention-grabbing tower made from EDL’s new nanotech matt material, FENIX NTM.

Other projects unveiled during the two-day event include Wilkhahn and SCA Design’s display of task chairs suspended to provide an all-angle perspective of its design evolution; Alustil and PLUS Collaboratives engaged the senses with four sleek coffee brewers that drip on aluminium and wood surfaces to showcase the various effects of staining; and Admira and Architology presented Flexile, High Pressure Laminates (HPL) that took shape in the form of a life-sized vessel mimicking skin and structure.

Singapore Indesign Intimate also introduced the inaugural Design Conversation series of panel discussions, where industry experts generously divulged insightful thoughts and experiences.

Singapore Indesign Intimate is followed by other Indesign: The Event experiences, including Sydney Indesign on 13 to 15 August 2015 and Hong Kong Indesign on 19 to 20 November 2015.
